OFT launch investigation into United's ticketing policies
12th December 2008

In a letter of reply to MUST’s chief executive Duncan Drasdo, the OFT confirmed: “The OFT will be investigating your complaint that the Manchester United season ticket terms contravene the Unfair Terms in Consumer Contracts Regulations 1999 (UTCCR).”

Full details here

The three strands to MUST's complaint are;

• that MUFC’s Season Ticket terms and conditions are in breach of the Unfair Terms in Consumer Contract Regulations 1999.

• that MUFC’s Compulsory Automatic Cup Ticket Scheme is in breach of The Competition Act 1998, Part II, Section 18(2).

• that MUFC’s pricing policy is in breach of The Competition Act 1998, Part II, Section 18(2)(a).

The OFT have stated that they are to investigate the compulsory nature of the ACS in relation to whether this contravenes the Unfair Terms and Conditions in the Consumer Contract Regulations 1999.

They do not however feel that they currently have the resources to look at the ACS and Ticket prices under the Competition Act.
